#Folic acid taken before pregnancy
The reason why woman are advised to take folic acid before pregnant:
Neural tube (will later become the brain and spinal cord) are formed at 3rd weeks after conception and closure at 4th weeks. During that time women do not find out that they are pregnant. Failure of neural tube to fully close will cause miscarriage or birth defect (spinal bifida)
